Canabalt The new project from creator Adam Saltsman is a studio called Finji, which is designed to “create new games and create new opportunities,” he announced today.
Saltsman is the director of Finji, while his wife, Rebekah, is a producer who helps design the game internally at the studio. The two originally founded the company in 2006, according to its About page, but remade it in 2014.
“For almost 10 years, we’ve saved, scratched, learned and tried new things (and got some incredibly lucky opportunities along the way) and experienced some spectacular failures (and lots of small ones), all with the ultimate goal of ‘get to do just this: collaborate with who we want, when we want, on the games we love, “they said today.
Finji will develop its own games and help market others. The Austin, Texas-based studio’s initial portfolio consists of four titles. The first is Portico (image above), which Adam Saltsman makes with Aquariums co-creator Alec Holowka; the pair announced the game last summer under the working title The fall. It’s a 2D turn-based game where players set traps to protect secret doors in the ruins, and Saltsman and Holowka provide weekly updates on its development on the title. Tumblr.
Night in the woods, the adventure game that Holowka and Scott Benson funded on Kickstarter last fall for over $ 200,000, will be distributed by Finji. The studio is currently for sale Capsule, Adam Saltsman and Robin Arnott’s claustrophobic survival game, and Finji’s latest game is By the road, for which the company collaborates with Shay Pierce of Deep Plaid Games.
“We are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to do this, and this is one of the reasons we hope to extend some of the chances we have had to other people,” the Saltsmans said. “We have no outside investment and currently have no crowdsourcing plans. This means to us that we make what we want, how we want.”
