The Chair in Consumer Law is organizing the 3rd Edition of the Online Certificate Course in Consumer Law and Practice under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India August 22-23, 2022. The course is scheduled to deliberate on new developments in the area of ​​consumer law, including the new Consumer Protection Act 2019, enforcement experience, in particular the functioning of the consumer regulatory authority, namely the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), product liability provisions, mediation and several other mechanisms foreseen by the new law which shows promise for the protection of consumer interests, the challenges arising from the new age economy. The role of other laws and regulatory bodies like FSSAI, ICC, TRAI, SEBI, IRDAI, etc. in the protection of consumer interests must also be understood. It is essential to have a synergy between consumer law education and its actual application in consumer forums. With this in mind, one of the themes of the course has been designed to discuss the practical aspects of consumer law. Resource persons for the certificate course would include renowned academics and professionals from leading universities, policy makers, regulators, consumer law practitioners as well as representatives of think tanks and VCAs working in this branch of law.

About the chair

The Chair in Consumer Law was established at the National Law University, Delhi by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Food and Public Distribution, Government of India in 2019 to act as as a think tank for research and policy. questions about consumer law and practice. To achieve these objectives, the Chair undertakes advocacy and capacity building activities with targeted actors such as students, academics, professionals, government officials, members of consumer forums, Voluntary Consumer Organizations ( VCO)/NGO, etc. awareness camps, as part of its community outreach initiatives. The chair also offers short certificate courses in consumer law and practice to build the capacity of professionals. The chair conducts research in the area of ​​consumer law and policy and provides input to policy makers. The President examines draft laws and rules in this area and formulates his comments. The chair also analyzes various court decisions in the field to verify the analysis of trends, to provide inputs to policy makers in order to make the legal architecture robust in light of the experience gained and the difficulties encountered.
