Due to the severity of the winter storm, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is temporarily reducing the speed limit on several roads in the east central area of ​​PennDOT District 5 which includes Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton counties and Schuylkill.

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, but those who must exit will have their speed reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:

Interstate 80 from I-380 to Carbon/Luzern County Line;

Interstate 380 in Monroe County.

On carriageways subject to speed restrictions, commercial vehicles not affected by other restrictions on these carriageways or other carriageways must move to the right lane.

In addition to speed limits, vehicle restrictions have been put in place. Vehicle restrictions on Interstate 380 in Monroe County prohibit: tractors without trailers; tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded closed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers; tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers; passenger vehicles towing trailers; recreational vehicles/campers; school buses, commercial buses and coaches; and motorcycles.
