THE WOODLANDS, TX – In Hollywood, sensory deprivation flotation tanks are typically used for bizarre purposes, whether it’s physically regressing you to pre-Neanderthal levels in Altered States or being the catalyst for literally cross universes in Fringe. However, in reality, nothing could be further from the truth. When used correctly, these flotation tanks envelop you in a unique environment that resembles the best parts of weightlessness, promoting the ability to emerge refreshed, rejuvenated and relaxed.

Woodlands Online was able to sit down with Melody Fraser, owner and float trainer at Blissful Waters, to ask her a few questions about the company and its products and services.
What is the mission/purpose of Blissful Waters?
My husband introduced me to the magical world of floating. He had discovered the practice in Australia, where he is from. Australian Aborigines use symbols as a means of communication. I fell in love with the symbol of the waterhole in Aboriginal culture and what it represents: a place of life, healing and community. The whirlpool in our logo means just that, a place where the community comes together to thrive.
Float Therapy was a life raft for me, a way to get the most out of life by unplugging. Floating therapy had such an impact on my life that I wanted to bring floating to everyone I know.
We quickly decided to open our own Float Center. Together we wanted a place of healing, wellness and community. Life happens; trauma occurs. We live in a hectic world and strive to provide the environment and tools to inspire our community to be their best.
How does it feel to celebrate your third year operating in The Woodlands?
Hitting the three-year mark was an incredible sense of accomplishment. We have had what we can only call a “hard opening” and very difficult last years for all small businesses; but coming out the other side now just proves we’re here to stay.
My family and I poured all of our energy and heart into Blissful Waters Float Center, and watching it grow has been the best feeling. Nothing is more heartwarming than watching veterans manage their mental health issues and PTSD, and find a way to get off prescription drugs, or an autoimmune person find lasting relief from chronic pain. We’ve seen women who failed in pregnancy soon become mothers, and entrepreneurs working on personal development and business growth. We love seeing moms and dads take time for themselves. It feels good to be a positive influence in so many lives, and I cherish the relationships we’ve forged along the way.
We started as a two-room floating therapy center in late 2018, and in three years have grown to three floating rooms, with additional modalities that complement floating and our new wellness brand. We couldn’t have come this far without the support of the community that has grown around our small business.
How does a float tank work?
Float tanks have many names: sensory deprivation tanks, float chambers, isolation tanks, float cabins, etc. A float tank is a low-light, low-noise environment that contains a saturated saline solution maintained at skin temperature. This environment allows a person to float effortlessly without external stimuli for many purposes including meditation, exploration, relaxation, and physical therapy.
Our floating tanks hold approximately one foot of water, which is heavily saturated with approximately 1,600 pounds of medical grade Epsom salt. This creates a solution with a density comparable to the Dead Sea, allowing a person to float effortlessly, removing all pressure from your joints and muscles.
The water temperature in the float tank is maintained at approximately 93-95°F / 34-35°C, the average skin temperature of the human body. This is a temperature known as the neutral skin receptor, meaning you can’t tell where your skin ends and water begins.
The tank and the suite of floats around it are noise insulated and when you turn off the light you have complete darkness. Our float tanks have buttons inside that control both the lights and the music playing inside your tank. While ideally during your float you will turn off the music and lights, you are in complete control of when this happens.
Our float tanks are spacious rooms contained in their own float suite, and each suite has its own shower that you use before your float to remove oils and after to remove salt and magnesium.
What are the benefits of float tank sessions?

In addition to flotation therapy, we’ve upped our game on the wellness front. We have added contrast therapy, which involves using our infrared sauna and cold ice bath. You can use them separately or combine the modalities to unlock the amazing health benefits they offer.
Additionally, building on our regular community classes in Guided Meditation, Yoga Nidra and Lucia Light, we have just rolled out brain training, using Brain Tap technology coupled with acoustic vibrating chairs.
